The salon describes itself as a boutique luxury hair salon. Its stated mission is to improve the salon experience through customized color and client education, and it considers luxury to mean transparency, expertise and helping clients understand how to care for their hair.
Color is the core of the work. Services include gloss and toner, single-process color and touch-ups, single-process color with gloss, and highlights or balayage. Each color is tailored to the client and planned to grow out well, with results chosen around hair health, longevity and how the client lives.
Appointments are booked by text message. New balayage and highlight clients are asked to send a current photo of their hair in good lighting, plus a few inspiration photos, before booking. Consultations are typically not charged, but clients need an appointment and should arrive on time. Clients come in with clean hair, washed the day before or the morning of. Cancellations within 24 hours are charged 50% of the planned service cost. Larger services such as full balayage and color correction require a $100 non-refundable deposit that is applied to the service; most other services do not.
Single-process color and cuts usually take about two hours, highlights with or without a cut about three to four hours, and big changes or color correction can run four hours or more. Single-process color starts at $130, single-process color touch-ups run $150 to $160 or more, and single-process color with gloss starts at $180. Highlights or balayage start at $295 with a listed range up to $500 or more; the salon notes that balayage and highlight prices depend on how big a change is wanted and how thick and long the hair is. Haircuts and trims are priced the same, starting at $105 for trims and $125 to $145 or more for a haircut or trim, and a blow dry is included at no extra charge with any service. Parking is behind Arcade Lane, off Green St, and is validated for one hour.
The stylists use Kérastase, Wella, L'Oréal, Redken and Hueverse, an organic color line from EVO. Owner Jane Alea Behm hand-picks the products, and the salon sells only products it believes in. Davines products are available for clients to take home; the brand was founded in Parma, Italy, in 1983 as a haircare research lab, and the company describes itself as a certified B-Corp whose products are still made in Parma. Stylists and assistants work together to help each other improve.
Color is customized to each client and designed to grow out well, with attention to hair health, longevity and each client's lifestyle.
