Jackalope Beauty Lounge was started by a group of longtime friends. After the other founders moved to the Hill Country, the Cobbs took full ownership. The salon sits in a building dating to the 1950s in old town Keller.
The salon describes itself as a boutique space with a relaxed feel that keeps up with trends. According to the salon, its most popular service is the cut and consult, a 45-minute session held before color. New color clients are required to have a consultation, and a complimentary color consultation is offered to everyone. Every service includes complimentary adult beverages, with local and craft beer, wine, aged whiskey served from a Jackalope-branded barrel, and non-alcoholic drinks available.
On the barber side, the menu includes haircuts, neck shaves, straight razor shaves, beard shaping with or without a razor, beard trims, combined cut and beard packages, and kids haircuts. A barber haircut includes a straight razor neck shave. Haircuts are grouped into new client, maintenance, specialty, transformation, dry, texturizing and kids options. Maintenance pricing applies to returning clients who cut at least every 12 weeks.
Booking is done by text or phone, and clients are asked to describe what they want so they can be matched with the right stylist and time. Color pricing varies by stylist, hair length and density, and style complexity, and stylists have slightly different pricing based on experience. The salon also runs a six-month salon apprenticeship program.
The salon hires for good character first and trains for skill. It aims to build a healthy culture with a strong work-life balance for its stylists.
