HD Hair Design is a Black and natural hair salon in Merrillville, Indiana. It works with natural, relaxed, transitioning and loc'd hair, and its focus is Black and textured hair from 4a curls to tightly coiled 4c. The salon was formerly known as A Joyous Look. The HD name is said to stand for High Definition, and the salon is also referred to as HD2 or High Definition Hair Designers.

The salon was founded in 2002 by Leandra Roch'e as A Joyous Look and still runs under the same founder and the same standard for healthy hair. The aim is hair that stays healthy over the long term, not only a good finished style. Transitioning from relaxed or color-treated hair to natural hair is a regular part of the work, from gradual grow-outs with treatments to a full big chop.

Visits are by appointment only. Clients can book online at any time through the booking page or by calling (219) 736-5322. Every first visit begins with a consultation and a custom client profile, and live pricing and stylist availability are shown in online booking. Clients come from Crown Point, Hobart, Schererville, Highland, Gary and across Lake County.

HD Academy offers advanced education taught by a licensed Master Cosmetology Instructor, covering healthy-hair science and technique. The salon is also hiring: licensed stylists are welcome to apply, and mentorship is offered from the first day.

Puts long-term hair health ahead of the finished style, with each service adjusted to the client's hair condition.
