Halcyon opened in 2017 in the Crossroads Arts District, offering hair, makeup, skincare and barbering under one roof. The salon says its mission is to provide a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere for every client, and that it aims to go beyond expectations with friendly, personalized service. The space was designed with client comfort and relaxation in mind.

Booking starts with a request. New clients can email HalcyonKC@gmail.com to ask for an appointment, or use the contact form to be matched with a stylist if they don't have one yet. Each stylist sets their own booking, rescheduling and cancellation rules, and hours vary by stylist, so clients check with their stylist for availability. Guests are not allowed at appointments, and children attend only when they have an appointment of their own.

Street parking is available on Washington Street, and a lot on the southeast corner of 20th and Washington has its entrance on 20th Street. Snacks and refreshments are offered during appointments. There are no books or magazines in the salon, so clients are welcome to bring their own reading material. The salon is cash-free and accepts major credit cards, Apple Pay and Venmo. Products can be bought in the salon or online, with curbside pickup available if clients call ahead.

Stylists can work full-time or part-time, and solo stylists can rent a booth. The salon also offers in-salon education for its stylists. Services range from haircuts for women, men and children, including gender affirming cuts, to color from balayage to vivid shades, extensions, makeup and makeup lessons, waxing, lash services, facials, and hair and makeup for weddings.
