Green + Anchor

Green + Anchor is set inside the Structure Lofts, a mixed-use building in Bankers Hill. Salon hours run Tuesday through Friday, by appointment only.

The salon opened in January 2018, founded by Briana McDonald as a space for stylists and clients that avoids the harsh chemicals common in hair color and hair products. The salon describes its environment as a pure air space using restorative and therapeutic products. According to the salon, it was featured in San Diego Magazine and Modern Luxury and named Best of San Diego within its first year.

Hair extensions are hand-tied and built around five goals: volume, length, hair health, comfort and confidence. New extension clients pay a non-refundable retainer to hold the appointment, which is deducted from the total on the day. The salon recommends reapplying extensions every 4 to 8 weeks and replacing extension hair every 6 to 8 months.

Booking changes depend on notice. Changes more than 72 hours ahead are rescheduled at no charge, 48 to 72 hours costs 25% of the service, 24 to 48 hours costs 50%, and under 24 hours or a no-show is charged the full service. A client who is not present within 30 minutes of the scheduled time counts as a no-show, and late arrivals are charged the full price. Confirmation messages go out six days ahead by text and email, and not replying does not count as cancelling.

The salon is a Certified Green Circle Salon, partnered with the Green Circle Salons sustainability organization. Unused color is sent back for recycling rather than rinsed down the sink, and cut hair is sent to be made into hair booms used for oil spills. The salon says 98% of items used during a service are recycled. Products are chosen to be free of GMOs, EDTA, SLS/SLES, parabens, petrolatum, phthalates and mineral oils, and are vegan and cruelty-free.
