Goldpop Salon began when Sonja Lauber left a large salon to open her own small studio. The name combines gold, which she sees as warm and classic, with 'Pop,' short for popular.
The studio is colorful and full of light, and it is kept quiet with one stylist, so clients have few distractions during an appointment. Visits often start with a free 30-minute consultation, where clients talk through ideas and goals and the stylist assesses the hair.
The salon uses and sells the Kevin Murphy hair care line, including shampoos, conditioners and styling aids. According to the salon, those products are sulphate free, paraben free and cruelty free. Clients can also ask for advice on hair dryers and brushes.
Free parking is available behind the Saturn Building entrance at N. 35th St, and in the PCC garage for 90 minutes, entered from Evanston Ave N. Metered street parking is also nearby for one to two hours, and there is free two-hour parking along the canal.
The salon treats each appointment as a team effort between stylist and client, with a consultation first and a clear plan agreed before the work begins.

Haircuts for kids under 16, women and men, each including a blow dry, plus a 15-minute bang or neck trim for maintenance between visits. Women's haircuts are $125, men's are $95, kids' are $80 and trims are $30.
