Golden West Salon

Golden West Salon grew out of early conversations between Abby Ramstad and Michelle Hunt, who then assembled the team. The salon describes itself as a boutique space meant to feel comfortable and creative, with a neighborhood feel and a focus on self-care.

The team is a mix of independent stylists and stylists employed by the salon. The salon says its stylists share a drive to keep growing and aim to give clients their best, and it values in-salon education so the team can keep up with trends. Services cover highlights, balayage and lived-in color, cuts for women and men, custom lash extensions, lash lifts and tints, brow shaping and lamination, full body waxing and airbrush tanning.

Bookings are by appointment only, and clients are encouraged to book ahead because stylists tend to fill their calendars in advance. The salon has a 24-hour cancellation policy and charges the full cost of a missed service when less than 24 hours' notice is given. Independent stylists set their own cancellation rules, which may differ, so clients should ask their stylist.

For special occasions the salon offers bridal packages, including a City Hall hair and makeup package that requires washed and dried hair beforehand, bridal party makeup with lashes included, makeup trials and day-of makeup. It also runs a one-hour personalized makeup class, where clients bring three items they own, and a two-hour makeup and dry styling session with two photos, suited to new profile pictures or headshots. A $60 travel fee applies within San Francisco, travel beyond the city is charged by mileage, and lodging is required for travel more than an hour outside the city.
