Golden Shears Salon was opened more than forty years ago by Carmela Cantu. It is now family-owned and operated by her daughter, owner Jackie Butler. The business started in Old Town Spring and has been at its current Rayford Road location for the last 13 years.

The salon aims to make every client feel welcome from the moment they arrive and to leave looking and feeling good. Giving back to the community is part of its mission. Stylists are professionally trained through John Paul Mitchell Systems and complete continuing education every year, with training on current styles and trends in hair, men's grooming, color and makeup. The salon says its team includes certified makeup artists and that its stylists share more than 100 years of combined hair styling and coloring experience. It describes itself as a premier leader in cutting, fading, grooming and education.

A visit starts with a consultation to choose a hairstyle that suits hair texture, face shape and lifestyle. The salon uses and sells Paul Mitchell styling products and tools, so clients can take products home. Clients who are unhappy with their hair can return within 7 days for a fix. Valid ID holders who are first responders, military personnel or seniors receive 10% off services.

Bridal, bridal party, prom and special-occasion work also begins with a consultation. Services include bridal hair and makeup, bridal party styling, prom, engagement and all-occasion hair and makeup, with on-location services available. Traditional and airbrush makeup application is offered as well.

The salon runs Fall in Love with Yourself, a self-esteem program for preteen and young girls, and supports the Sarai's Mirror program, which helps empower women. Each year it hosts a prom event that gives high school girls a free dress, shoes, jewelry, hair and makeup.

Hairstyles are chosen through a consultation that considers hair texture, face shape and lifestyle.
