Glorious Locks NHB is a natural hair and beauty business in Golden Valley that works only with locking styles: Sisterlocks, microlocs and interlocs. The business grew out of its founder's enthusiasm for encouraging and celebrating Black hair and natural beauty.

A Sisterlocks journey is usually handled in three visits. The first is a consultation, where the consultant reviews hair care history, styling preferences and lifestyle, and places sample locks to test hold, size and scalp visibility. The second is the locking session, which can take 10 to 20 hours and sometimes spans several days; the average client leaves with about 400 locks. The third is a follow-up retightening after at least two shampoos. It is included in the package if booked within four weeks and is usually scheduled about a month after locking. Ongoing retightenings are typically every four to six weeks, depending on hair type and growth rate.

New clients receive a starter kit with shampoo for new locks, tiny rubber bands and guides on grooming and shampooing. Pricing depends on hair density and length. Establishment prices listed start at $997 for 4-inch interlocs and at $1,299 for 4-inch microlocs or Sisterlocks.

Policies to know before booking: a deposit is required to schedule retightenings and can be moved only with 72 hours notice, to a slot within seven days, subject to availability; a cancelled appointment forfeits the deposit. Deposits on new establishments count toward the final cost if the client goes ahead, but cannot be used for other services. The balance for a Sisterlocks installation is due at the end of the first day. Hair must be clean and free of product, and washed at least two days before a consultation or establishment, or the appointment is rescheduled. Establishments may be split across two or three days, and clients bring their own meals. Children and extra guests are not allowed in sessions unless they are receiving service. Payment is accepted by major credit card, cash, PayPal and Cash App, and advance payments can be made online or in person. The salon notes that policies may change without notice.

Sisterlocks is a natural locking method that uses no extensions, gels, waxes or glues, and the salon says it is gentle on hair and scalp. The team recommends seeing a consultant two to three times a year to keep locks maintained.
