FREDERICK WIG COMPANY
Studio in Frederick, MD
Warren works alone at this studio, which runs by appointment only, so every client gets private, dedicated time there and can bring along as many companions as they want for support. First consultations usually last about 90 minutes, and follow-up visits about 45. The consultation fee goes toward any purchase above $350, whether that purchase is made during the appointment or afterward. Custom consultations can take place virtually or in person. The shop keeps several hundred ready-to-wear wigs and toppers from a range of brands, plus partial pieces, hair additions and men's hairpieces. Most of these can be taken home the same day. The selection is built on years of studying and wearing ready-made styles. White and gray human hair pieces are available in a limited range, while synthetic and blended versions in those shades offer more choice. Synthetic styles longer than shoulder length are generally not carried, but short and pixie synthetics are well represented. In-store accessories include shampoo, conditioner, sprays, heat protectants, combs, brushes and clips, and gift cards can be purchased. For medical hair loss, Warren is an NPI-approved prosthesist and offers a selected group of ready-made medical wigs alongside handmade custom pieces. Head shaving for medical hair loss is provided free of charge, and private fittings can be arranged. Clients are encouraged to schedule an initial consultation as far as two weeks ahead of starting treatment. Where an insurance policy covers cranial prostheses, the shop accepts it, issues a detailed invoice and advises on how to seek reimbursement. For children with medical or genetic hair loss, wigs are available from ultra petite sizes upward, and cap and sizing adjustments can be made to children's wigs. The shop welcomes clients of every gender identity, including trans and nonbinary clients. Wig care can be dropped off at any time of day in the locked delivery box at the rear entrance. Each item goes into a zip-lock bag labeled with the client's name, and the client sends a text confirming the wig has been left along with their preferred styling. Wigs are usually air dried overnight before being styled. A same-day wash and style done in person is available for an extra charge and must be requested by text in advance. Restyling, resizing and refreshing services extend the life of wigs and hairpieces, and their prices depend on the work involved. Appointments are made through the website. Clients who would rather not use it can text (866) 310-5908 to receive a secure payment link. Phone booking is not offered, and calls may go unanswered for a week or longer. Appointments can be rescheduled or cancelled up to 24 hours before the original time through the link in the confirmation. Major credit cards, cash and checks are accepted via Square, but payment plans are not available. Students, teachers and military personnel get 10% off. Products and services are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged, and a deposit on handmade custom work is non-refundable once paid. The shop does not service wigs or hairpieces purchased elsewhere. The front entrance has several steps. The rear entrance has a single step up followed by a ramp down into the shop. Parking is free in the Shab Row lot or in two designated spaces beside the rear entrance. The restroom is on the second floor and is reached by stairs, and a coffee shop in the parking lot has a ground-floor restroom. Photos of clients or custom projects are never posted without consent, and reference photos taken during consultations stay private.

Each custom piece is made and fitted to the individual client, and when work is done remotely but a head mold must be made in person, clients are referred to a local wigmaker.
