Forma Gym San Jose

Forma Gym operates two clubs, one in Walnut Creek on Olympic Boulevard and one in San Jose on Thornwood Drive. The Walnut Creek club is the original location and has operated since 2009, while the San Jose club has served the South San Jose community since 2015. Both are open Monday through Thursday from 5am to 11pm, Friday until 10pm, and weekends from 6am to 8pm.

Group fitness classes are included at both locations, with formats that range from cardio, HIIT and cycling to Pilates, dance, yoga, barre, kickboxing and meditation. Personal training is available one on one, in small groups of four to eight people with one trainer, and outdoors. Family and couples memberships are offered, and children's beginner classes and fitness, athlete and swim consultations can be booked.

The Walnut Creek club has 35,000 square feet of renovated indoor and outdoor space, including four studios, a Pilates reformer studio and fully equipped fitness playgrounds in covered and indoor areas. It also has a heated outdoor lap pool, onsite child care through Kidzville, and a café and smoothie bar. The San Jose club covers 40,000 square feet with an 8,000 square foot covered outdoor fitness area, a heated six-lane junior Olympic pool, full-service locker rooms with a sauna, steam room and hot tub, and towel service that includes chilled eucalyptus towels.

The Walnut Creek day spa sits beside the locker rooms, so guests can use the sauna, eucalyptus steam room or hot tub before or after a treatment. Massage is priced at $65 for 25 minutes, $115 for 50 minutes and $160 for 80 minutes there. San Jose does not publish massage prices online and asks callers to phone for rates.

Whole body cryotherapy takes place in a nitrogen-cooled chamber with the head kept above it. Sessions last about 2.5 to 3 minutes, depending on tolerance. On arrival, clients check in at the front desk, complete a waiver and are shown to a private dressing room, where socks, shoes, gloves and a robe are provided. The process is dry, so no shower is needed afterward, the chamber door is never locked, and a technician stays present throughout. The club does not recommend it for people who are pregnant or who have conditions such as untreated hypertension, a recent heart attack or congestive heart failure. The method was first started in Japan in 1978 by Dr. Toshiro Yamauchi.

The club describes its facilities as luxury and its fitness instructors as among the industry's best; these are its own claims.

Walnut Creek has indoor and covered outdoor fitness space, and some San Jose group classes are held outdoors on turf.
