About

Michele Kliever opened Ethos of Annapolis in 2014 with the aim of bringing massage and esthetics together in one place. The team has since grown to include three more massage therapists and another esthetician. The spa occupies the bottom level of a historic brick building on the corner of Lafayette Avenue and Shaw Road, in a handcrafted studio in an upscale neighborhood. Clients can park in two reserved spots behind the building or use nearby street parking, which is free with two-hour limits.

New clients receive a complimentary consultation with their therapist for massage or facials, and complete paperwork and a short health questionnaire on the first visit. Arriving ten minutes early helps, or fifteen if the paperwork is still unfinished. Online consent forms are available for massage, facial and HydraFacial appointments, and minors under 18 can receive massage and facials with a signed parent or guardian consent form. Gratuity is not included in service prices and is left to the client. Cash or check is preferred, though tips can be charged to a credit card.

The Ethos Signature Facial starts with a personalized consultation, then moves through cleansing, exfoliation, extractions when needed, a mask, serums and moisturizer. It is offered in 60, 75 or 90 minute versions, and longer sessions can add Celluma LED therapy and massage. Shorter options include the 30-minute Ethos Express Facial, the 75-minute Ethos CBD Facial using the ColorUp CBD line, and the 60-minute Ethos Back Facial for the back. Facials are offered in three levels, and dermaplaning can be added to any facial or HydraFacial. The microcurrent customized facial is a 90-minute treatment, and a series of microcurrent sessions is recommended, spaced two to seven days apart.

The maternity massage is offered in the second or third trimester and is not recommended in the first trimester under 15 weeks. Clients are asked to say how far along they are when booking. Cupping, CBD and Celluma light therapy can be added to massage. A buccal massage, an intra-oral massage with gloved hands, is also available alone or combined with a facial.

The spa describes itself as committed to green living and uses organic lines, including Taio Organics for massage and Eminence Organics for skincare. DMK treatments can be booked every week or every other week across a course of six, eight or twelve weeks. For maintenance or mild concerns, the spa recommends two back-to-back treatments followed by a home routine. According to the spa, its Celluma LED devices are FDA-cleared and use light without UV. Bookings can be made by phone, email or through the website. Changes and cancellations need at least 24 hours' notice, and no-shows or late cancellations are charged 50 percent of the full-service price. Unused retail products may be returned within 14 days.

Committed to green living, the spa pairs organic product lines with customized treatments and home care guidance.

A comfortable, cozy and safe boutique spa in a handcrafted studio.
