The salon was founded by Kayoko Matsumoto, who built her reputation in Japan through word of mouth among clients of all ages before moving to the United States in 2009 and working in Boston. en.SALON opened in 2017 and expanded in 2023. Its name is meant to express gratitude for the connections people make when they come together in the salon.

The philosophy centers on cutting along the natural flow of the hair and on each client's own features. Styles are shaped with attention to hair texture, bone structure, personal features and lifestyle, drawing on the Kayoko Method. The salon says its aims include bringing out each client's natural beauty and accepting natural imperfections. It also places value on training assistants and future stylists, with mutual respect and support.

A visit usually starts with a consultation, where the team takes client preferences into account and offers hairstyle ideas through color and cuts. Services include cuts, color, perms, Japanese hair straightening and consultations. The salon is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and is closed Sunday and Monday. Cancellations need at least 48 hours' notice, and appointments are marked as no-shows after 20 minutes of lateness. No cancellation fee is currently charged, but online booking locks after more than three late cancellations or no-shows. Products can be exchanged for equal-value items within 14 days with a receipt.

The salon occupies the first floor of a historic building and has no customer parking of its own. Street parking is nearby on Brington Road and on Cypress Street. Cypress Street has meters, and parking there is free for two hours where no restriction sign is posted. Clients receiving chemical services are asked to sign a release form and to tell the salon about any known allergens. The salon states that it does not accept responsibility for chemical irritation or burns caused by its products. Under its guarantee, clients who are unhappy with a service should say so within 48 hours or 2 business days. A corrective service is offered within 2 weeks or 10 business days of the appointment. The guarantee excludes a major departure from the original style or color, and fees may apply in some situations. Cash and card tips are both accepted.
