Before a service, she takes time to learn what each client wants from their look. The salon describes its own aim as a kind, thoughtful and inclusive space, built on community and on doing good hair. Emily welcomes both new and long-time clients and works with every hair type and need.

The salon's services are grouped into color, consultations, haircuts and new-client specials. Color options include all-over color, partial and full highlights, balayage, blonde retouch, global blonding, root work, corrective color that begins with a consultation, and a fashion color service called The Majestic Unicorn. Haircuts are priced by length and texture, from short and curly cuts to extra-long and thick hair, and bangs are offered as a quick add-on.

Booking is open Wednesday through Friday online. Weekend appointments, or times not shown online, are arranged by calling or texting the salon. Clients are asked to give at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule, and a cancellation or no-show within 24 hours of a visit is charged the cost of that service. Gift certificates are available. The shop sits in Downtown Beaverton, near restaurants, coffee shops and boutiques.

Emily also hosts a podcast called Your Hairapy Session with Emily. It looks back on her own experiences as a hairstylist and features conversations with salon owners, stylists and entrepreneurs. Episodes are available on Spotify, Apple Podcast, Amazon Music and YouTube, and the YouTube versions include video.

Emily learns each client's goals for their style before starting, and builds trust and a comfortable, open experience in the chair.
