Electrolysis treats hair one follicle at a time: a small probe is placed into each follicle and a gentle current destroys it. The clinic says electrolysis is the only treatment the FDA has cleared for permanent hair removal. Because the method does not target pigment, it works on every hair color and skin type. Hair grows in cycles, so the work is done as a series of sessions spread over several months.

Laser hair removal is offered for the face and many body areas, including armpits, arms and hands, back, bikini and buttocks, chest and torso, chin, lips and face, full body, legs, toes and feet, and neck. Laser works best on dark hair, and gray or blond hair does not respond to it. Clients are asked to avoid sun exposure for four to six weeks before and after treatment, and to avoid tanning beds, waxing, tweezing, bleaching, hair removal products and electrolysis until the treatment series is finished. For 24 hours after a laser session, hot showers, hot tubs, saunas, swimming and high-activity sports are off limits.
