The salon describes itself as New Jersey's premier natural hair care training center and salon, and as a premier multicultural salon and spa. Its stated mission is that beauty comes from appreciation and understanding, and it works with clients across textured hair types, from curly and coily to kinky.

Each visit starts with a consultation. Every treatment, cut and consultation is customized to what the client's hair needs, according to the salon. A first visit for a curly, coily or kinky client is designed as a New Curlfriend appointment, which moves through a consultation, a shampoo, styling and a personalized homecare regimen. First-time curly, coily and kinky clients are encouraged to bring the products they already use. New clients are asked to arrive with dry hair that was styled at least two days before the appointment, without twists, braids or ponytails, and without oils or butters applied after booking. Previous style removal can be added at booking for a long-term style that has been kept in for more than 30 days.

The menu is grouped under Hair and Bridal. Hair covers natural haircare and styling, extensions, coloring and Hair Restoration, which addresses hair loss through scalp analysis and a consultation into the root cause of the concern. Bridal services cover wedding hair and makeup, including on-location appointments with brides. Children must be able to sit unassisted in the shampoo chair to be serviced, and they may not stay in the salon without a supervising adult unless they are being serviced; this rule does not apply to bridal guests.

DSimone Texture Academy is a division of DSimone Artistry focused on education and workforce development in textured hair. The Academy describes itself as a workforce development institution rather than a braiding school. It offers a 165-hour hybrid Intro to Texture Pre-Apprenticeship in small cohorts of up to 10 participants, is a DOL Registered Apprenticeship sponsor, and holds training at Elmwood Park, Somerset and Willingboro, New Jersey. Registered apprentices must be currently enrolled in a cosmetology program.

Booking and pricing are set out clearly. Listed prices are starting prices, increases are discussed with the client, and prices depend on the hair service rather than the client's age. Pricing may change without notice. Cancellations can be made through the booking app up to 48 hours before the appointment; late cancellations and no-shows are charged $50 per service, and a no-show must pay that amount before rebooking. Arrivals more than a 15-minute grace window late are charged a $25 late fee. Detangling beyond 15 minutes is charged $50 per 30 minutes, and hair needing more than two detox shampoos is charged $25 for Extreme Detox. Services are nonrefundable. Technical issues must be reported to management by email within 24 hours to be considered for adjustments or restyles, which are completed within seven days. Parking is at the rear of the building with entry through the front, and free street parking is available when the lot is full. The Elmwood Park location is at 129 Broadway, and the Willingboro location is at 351 Campbell Dr Suite K.

Every visit is customized to the hair in front of the stylist, with an emphasis on understanding what the hair needs before any service begins.
