About

Dreads By Dotie is a loc salon founded by Dotie, who works as owner and stylist. The salon describes itself as an all-woman salon and as the highest quality, most unique loc salon in the Dallas market. Dotie has been drawn to natural hair since 2008 and began working professionally with locs in 2013.

There are two locations: a salon at 2607 S. 2nd Ave. in Dallas, and Suite 142 inside Phenix Salon Suites at 305 W Farm to Market Rd 1382 in Cedar Hill. Stylist hours run Monday 9am to 3pm, Tuesday through Friday 9am to 4pm, Saturday 9am to 1pm and Sunday 8am to 11am, and stylists are available seven days a week. The Dallas location takes walk-ins Tuesday through Saturday from 9am to noon for a $40 walk-in fee plus the service cost, though walk-ins are accepted sparingly and do not guarantee same-day service. Online booking is recommended, and text is the preferred way to reach the concierge line at 214-460-3445.

A visit usually starts with a shampoo, which the salon requires before every service for sanitation. A consultation costing $25 and lasting about 30 minutes is required before extensions, loc reattachments, wicks or instant locs, and is recommended whenever a client has major concerns or is unsure what to book. Palm roll retwists typically take no more than two hours and are recommended every three to eight weeks.

Starter locs are offered as comb coil or two strand twist, and the two strand version is priced by loc size and includes a consultation with sizing and grid options. Interlocking is best spaced no sooner than six weeks and no later than three months apart, and the salon advises against it for thinning or damaged hair. Loc extensions are handmade to order and then installed, and instant locs are priced by size.

The salon says it creates jobs for local residents, including stylists, receptionists and other staff, and that its team takes part in local events and supports charitable causes. It also states that it offers or can offer apprenticeships, workshops and training programs for aspiring stylists, and that it serves a diverse clientele.

Stylists are trained under Dotie and use the same products and techniques, so clients receive the same service from any stylist. The salon says it aims for perfection in the products it makes and the service it provides.

The salon describes its atmosphere as warm and welcoming.
