The practice is led by plastic surgeon Melissa Doft, who founded it and also lends her name to the Doft New York skincare line. Consultations are generally booked on Mondays and Thursdays, and the office is open 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. The office is decorated like a private home, which the practice pairs with an aim of creating a setting that supports quality, individuality, honesty and privacy.

Its philosophy centers on refining a patient's facial or body appearance while keeping natural features and expressions. Treatment often combines several approaches, such as small fillers and laser work alongside surgery, and the practice works with a team of dietitians, physical trainers and aestheticians to support surgical results. Body work is tailored to each patient's frame and aesthetic preferences rather than a single ideal, and the site describes the office as conservative in its approach to surgery.

The practice also cares for infants and children with birth differences, including prominent ears, cleft lips and palates, and birthmarks. The surgeon who created the Newborn Butterfly Project designed an abbreviated method for molding ears in newborns.

Out-of-town patients, including those travelling from Europe, Latin America, Asia, the Middle East and Russia, are seen, and the office can help arrange transport, accommodation and nursing needs. Remote consultations start with photographs of the area of concern, sent by mail or as high-resolution digital images, before a phone or video consultation is arranged. Patients are advised not to travel for at least 10 days after surgery. The practice is out-of-network with all insurance carriers, though out-of-network benefits may be applied to medically necessary procedures. New and newborn patients are asked to print, complete and bring intake forms to their first appointment rather than emailing them.
