Designs by Deborah has been promoting healthy and natural hair in Tacoma since 2008. Deborah owns the salon and works as its hair designer, with more than fifteen years as a hairstylist and a focus on natural hair care, healthy hair and protein treatments.

The menu covers relaxers, color and other chemical services, shampoo services, treatments and SisterLocks. Every shampoo service includes scalp care, a custom blend treatment, and either a trim with a flatiron finish or a simple style. Color work includes full-head demi and permanent deposits, permanent color touch-ups about every six weeks, full foil and lift and deposit, and the salon offers weekly maintenance plans and packages for color and for long or short hair.

SisterLocks is a central part of the salon. Installation gives each client between 300 and 500 locs, set out in a grid chosen for their head shape. The process takes 15 to 25 hours, usually spread over three days, and starts with a consultation and a review of the grid and hair care. Afterward, clients get ongoing support for the life of their locs, including retightening visits, product education and check-ins. The business says its SisterLocks system has served three decades of natural hair.

Hair extensions are also sold at the salon, in tape-in, I-tip, hand-tied and machine-weft styles, in curly, wavy and straight textures.

Deborah also provides hair care education, showing clients how to look after their hair between visits.

Education comes first: clients are taught how to care for their hair properly, with the aim of bringing out each client's own beauty.
