He started out as a barber, then worked in Princeton, New Jersey, and in Manhattan before opening in La Jolla.

The salon works with both women and men. Curly hair is a particular focus: many of the clients are curly-haired people who want looser curls with more bounce and length, and the salon also offers keratin treatments that reduce frizz and bulk and loosen curls. Women's cuts and color, and men's cuts, round out the menu.

Men's haircuts are done with scissors over a comb rather than clippers and take about 45 minutes. Women's color uses L'Oréal Professionnel Inoa, an oil-based, ammonia-free permanent color, and the salon also offers an all-over color method without foils, which it says is faster and less costly.

The salon has its own parking at no charge. Cancellations need 48 hours' notice, otherwise half the service fee is charged. Prices are not published online, so clients are asked to call (858) 900-8187 for pricing and to talk through which services fit their hair, since the listed services are not a full catalogue.

Daniel chooses cuts with the client's facial structure, face shape, and skin tone in mind, and leaves hair a little longer before cutting vertically to build shorter layers while keeping a one-length shape.
