Cutting Loose Salon of Florida was founded in 2008. The Somers Crossing salon in Connecticut opened in 2013, when its owners brought the French cutting and balayage approach they had trained in back to Connecticut, where they grew up in Enfield.

The salon's stated motto is E2, which stands for exceeding expectations, and its mission centers on inspiring guests and the community through dedicated service. At Somers Crossing, the designer mixes the color formula in view of the client at the Color Café, and the space is open, well lit and polished. Take-home product areas are also available there.

Haircut prices depend on the experience level of the designer, and every service is priced a la carte, so an additional charge may apply for extra product. Consultations are free. Extensions, perms, relaxers, Keratherapy and thermal straightening are priced after a quote or consultation, and color correction is quoted as well. Appointment requests need to be made at least seven days ahead. Cancellations need 24 hours notice, and missed appointments or no-shows are charged the full service price. Clients more than 10 minutes late may have their appointment rescheduled. Guests earn reward points for referrals and for booking the next visit at checkout, and every 500 points is worth $5 off a retail purchase.

The Lather Lounge is a quiet area where clients receive a complimentary head and neck massage, and talking and phone use are asked to be kept to a minimum. Clients can add a 15-minute head, neck and hand massage for $10. Blow dry lessons are 45-minute private sessions for $45, where clients bring their own tools and products. Protégé by Cutting Loose, an internal training program for stylists working toward joining the salon, is offered at the University Park location, with reduced-price services for guests. The Cutting Loose Academy also seeks hair models for select Monday education classes, where the model pays only for the color used.

Built on French cutting and balayage methods that the salon says produce wash-and-wear hair with a soft, feminine finish.
