About

Cutting Club began as a men's hair business founded by owner Whitney Welch, who drew on her own years in the field. Over time the business moved from men's hair toward gender neutral barbering, offering hair and grooming services that do not assume anything about a client's gender identity.

Every service and style on the menu is open to all clients, whatever their gender. The salon aims to be a welcoming place, in its physical layout and its social atmosphere, with no gendered expectations or rules attached.

The River North location is on Floor 2 of One Superior Place, a mixed-use commercial and residential building, inside the Salon Lofts. Clients follow the signs through the entry, take the elevator up, and find Loft 30 by the wall signage. The Avondale location is in Suite 13 on Milwaukee Avenue. Clients buzz for entry and the salon is the first door on the right in the hallway.

A standard Haircut is a 45-minute appointment that begins with a personal consultation, then a shampoo with scalp massage, a neck shave, a steamed towel, and a blow dry and style. A Transformation Cut is a longer appointment for a big change, for a longer consultation, or for clients who have gone eight or more weeks without a haircut. House call and on-site visits are available for haircuts at home or in a corporate office.

The salon does not offer long layers, bobs, blow-out services, or hot lather face shaves. For those, it recommends booking with another salon. Online booking is available through Glossgenius for both locations.

Gender neutral barbering that offers the full range of short, modern cuts to any client, using scissor-forward work and barber-informed techniques.

A welcoming space meant to be free of gendered expectations or policies.
