THE RUME is a hair salon in River North where clients work with one of several independent hair artists, each selected by the salon. Each artist runs their own book, so a visit is with the person you choose rather than a rotating team.

The salon was started by co-founders Delara, Rosemary and Xo, who together have more than 20 years in the hair industry. It was set up to support independent artists and to put atmosphere first. The salon describes its aim as becoming the most trusted hair salon in River North.

Visits are by appointment only, Tuesday through Saturday, 9am to 5pm. The upper floor is reached by stairs, and guests who need help on arrival can let their artist know ahead of time. Bookings go through a third-party platform, with individual or group options, and questions can go to the booking coordinator or straight to an artist. Prices listed are starting prices that vary by artist and the extent of the service. Extensions, corrective color and transformative color are quoted after a consultation, so call the salon for those. Street parking is available on Chicago Avenue and in the surrounding area.
