Curl Evolution Suites

The salon was founded in Babylon to give textured hair specialized attention. The Babylon salon is at 233 East Main Street and is open Tuesday to Friday 10am to 8pm and Saturday to Sunday 9am to 6pm, closed Mondays, with appointments recommended. The Dix Hills location, Curl Evolution Suites, is at 683 Old Country Road, Suite 37, inside Suites by JC. It is by appointment only, takes no walk-ins, and serves clients from Dix Hills, Huntington, Commack, Melville, Deer Park and Wheatley Heights. Dix Hills offers curly cuts and curly styling lessons only, with no color or chemical services.

Curl specialists cut curly hair dry, one curl at a time, so the shape of each curl is visible before anything is cut. The signature Dry Curly Cut, also called the Curl Evolution Cut, is shaped to each client's curl pattern. Every stylist completes an intensive training program of about a year covering dry cutting, curl-by-curl shaping, styling methods and at-home care education, and according to the salon's FAQ, stylists work independently only after demonstrating expertise. The team also brings curl education into local cosmetology schools through the Cosmetology Class Outreach Program.

Clients are asked to arrive with hair down, fully dry and styled the way they normally wear it, with detangling completed before the visit; styling products are fine. A First Visit Curly Cut ($165 to $265) includes a curl consultation, a dry cut, a Juicy Curls deep treatment, a styling lesson and product recommendations for home care. Detangling that runs past 15 minutes adds $25 for each additional 15 minutes. Consultations can be scheduled, and the deposit can be applied to a future service. Cancellations need at least 24 hours' notice; later cancellations, same-day reschedules and no-shows are charged the full service total. Color is placed according to the curl pattern, cut, density and desired result rather than a traditional foil pattern. Babylon offers full or partial balayage, foil highlights, root touch-ups, lowlights, glazes and base color, with products from Goldwell, Redken and Keune. The Put Your Curls on Vacation smoothing treatment reduces frizz while keeping the client's curl pattern, has no downtime and no washing restrictions, and can be adjusted from light frizz reduction to a softer, more elongated curl. Results typically last three to four months with a sulfate-free shampoo, and the salon recommends booking it on the same day as a color service.

Children's curly cuts are for anyone under 12. The New Generation First Hair Cut ($45) is for children under 5, the Children's Maintenance Cut is $75, and the First Visit Children's Cut ($165) includes a curl consultation, dry cut, detox cleanse as needed and a deep conditioning treatment. Excessive detangling during a children's maintenance cut adds $15 per 15 minutes per stylist. Packages include the 6-Month Curl Care Package ($599) and the 12-Month Curl Care Package ($799), which includes four curly cuts, two tickets to a Curl Confidence Class and unlimited virtual support.

Services are built around each client's curl pattern, goals and daily routine, and the salon's view is that curly hair is cared for well when its texture is understood.
