The salon was founded by Jillian Allen, who spent more than twelve years in corporate marketing before leaving that career to pursue hair. Her aim is for each client to leave feeling confident, happy and beautiful.

The salon sits on a quiet street, so the setting feels calm and private while still being close to the energy of Old Town. Parking is available in front of and behind the building. Appointments are booked through the salon's website.

Cortado's work centers on three areas: color, which ranges from custom blonding and lived-in color to dimensional brunettes and corrective color; cuts, including refined women's and men's cuts; and styling, from blowouts to specialty styling. Extensions, both hand-tied and tape-in, are also part of the offering.
