About

Columbus Braiding Co is a salon suite for braids, founded in 2023 by Tyler. It serves women of color. According to the business, its stated purpose is to support mental health, self-care and career growth through braiding. Its listed values are empowerment, education, care, community and professionalism.

The service menu centers on knotless braids and cornrow styles, with techniques meant to protect natural hair. Other offerings include boho and bora bora styles with bulk human hair, crochet braids, stitch braids with or without extensions, single braids, flat twists, tribal braids, pull-through braids, locs and loc maintenance, and kid braids for ages 4 to 10 for existing clients. Prices start at $25 for a pre-parting add-on and at $400 for the most intensive knotless and bulk styles. Braiding hair is included in some styles, such as Xpressions braiding hair in certain knotless sizes, while crochet braids, locs, and twists do not include hair.

Clients book online only, not by phone, social media, or walk-in. A deposit of $20 to $300, depending on the service, is due at booking and goes toward the balance, and deposits are non-refundable. Appointment length depends on parting size, hair length, and other factors, so it can run shorter or longer than the estimate. Hair washing is not offered, so clients should arrive with hair washed, blown out, and free of heavy oils, though natural, non-blow-dried hair is accepted. A child under 18 may stay with the child during the appointment, while adults may not bring children or an extra guest.

The business also runs braiding education. The Braiding License Course is a 45-hour, six-week hands-on program covering braiding technique, business management, and building a clientele, open to students 16 and older with proof of 10th grade completion. The Advanced License Course is an online class for braiders who need formal training to become licensed, and one-on-one sessions are available for students 13 and older. Students receive a notarized certificate verifying the training needed to apply for a braiding license. Ohio requires a Braiding License or Cosmetology License to provide professional braiding services, and only the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology issues the braiding license, which can take up to one week. The Ohio Business Course covers braiding techniques, entrepreneurship, Ohio boutique service registration, and a final project. A sponsorship program helps selected women of color with financial need cover the Ohio Braiding Course, with applications reviewed monthly and applicants notified within four to six weeks. Columbus Braiding Co is a for-profit business.

Focuses on knotless braids and cornrow styles, using techniques meant to protect natural hair, with education and community built into its mission.
