The original location is on the third floor of the Miller Textile Building in northeast Minneapolis. Cocoon operates from two locations. Owner and stylist Marriah LaVigne started the salon after years of working at other salons, and it is organized around independent stylists. The original location is on the third floor of the Miller Textile Building in northeast Minneapolis. The second is on the first floor of the Vandalia Tower in St. Paul, reachable from I-94 via the Vandalia/Cretin exit.

Stylists here work as their own bosses. Each one rents a chair or suite, sets their own hours, pricing and schedule, and books their own clients. Clients choose the stylist they want, book directly with them, and can email or call that person with questions. The salon describes its stylists as highly trained and creative professionals. New clients can book through a new client form on the website, and the website links to shopping for products through affiliate links.

Both locations are handicap accessible and offer ample parking. Each is close to mass transit and has easy access from the Interstate, which makes either one simple to reach from across the metro.

Stylists work as independent professionals inside a shared salon, so each client builds a working relationship with the stylist they choose.
