The school says its roots go back more than 60 years to Waco, and a local family has owned and operated its beauty schools for over 30 years. Robert O. Painter founded the school in 1983 and served as its director and owner from that year. The Temple campus opened in 1984 and the Round Rock campus in 1991.

Salon services are offered Tuesday through Friday, with varying start and end times. The salon is open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on those days and is closed Monday, Saturday and Sunday. Because services are performed by students, clients book by phone at the campus they plan to visit. Services are done on clean hair only, outside products are not allowed for safety reasons, and each coupon covers one service per visit. Discounts cannot be stacked, including senior rates. Temple holds senior days on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and cut-off times for services differ by campus and by service. Starting prices on the salon's service list include haircuts at $15, a classic facial at $55, a manicure at $10, a gel manicure at $15, a pedicure at $23, a single color application at $50 and a permanent wave at $55. The school describes its salon prices as affordable.

The Round Rock building is about 11,000 square feet and has 76 working stations, 6 shampoo stations, 5 dryer stations and 7 mannequin tables. Its nail room has 12 manicuring stations, 4 pedicuring stations, 6 mobile manicuring tables and 2 waxing stations. The Temple campus has 38 working stations, 3 shampoo stations with reclining chairs, 5 dryer stations, and a nail room with 6 manicuring stations, 2 pedicuring stations and 1 waxing station. Both campuses have a student lounge with vending machines and lockers.

Programs include a 1,000-hour cosmetology course of about 34 weeks and a 600-hour manicuring course of about 20 weeks, both offered at both campuses. Class A Barber training is a 1,000-hour course of about 34 weeks for people without a cosmetology license, and a 300-hour Barber Crossover of about 14 weeks is offered in Round Rock for licensed cosmetologists adding a barber license. The school lists total costs of $10,375 for cosmetology, $6,375 for manicuring, $10,375 for Class A Barber and $4,200 for Barber Crossover. Payment plans are interest-free, the school does not participate in the federal student loan program, and eligible students may use the Federal Pell Grant. Applicants must be at least 16, or 17 for an operator or manicuring license, and must show proof of high school completion or its equivalent. Students must keep at least 67 percent attendance and a 70 percent written grade average, and pass a final written and practical exam to graduate. The school states a goal of graduates leaving without student debt and reports a state board pass rate above 99 percent for 2012 through 2021. It cannot guarantee employment but offers resume, interviewing and marketing help through its business development program.

Students perform the salon services under the supervision of licensed instructors, with the school focused on building technical skill from the fundamentals. The school describes its cosmetology education as the best available.
