Calming Waters Skin Care opened in 2010 in Kirkland, Washington, and operates as a skin care and makeup spa. Services and product shopping are by appointment only, booked by phone or through the online booking link on the services page.

The spa aims to give every client skin care customized to their needs. The owner helps each client choose the services and treatments that suit their skin, and the work is carried out in a relaxing spa setting.

Facial options run from the Customized Facial up to the Signature Facial, which includes a light-to-moderate chemical peel. The peel is matched to each client's skin needs and can be toned down for a gentle effect or intensified for a more noticeable one. Several facials include microdermabrasion. The Ultimate Anti-Aging Facial layers microdermabrasion, microcurrent and LED light therapy, then finishes with a thorough cleanse, a mask tailored to the client, and botanical stem-cell products. Dermaplaning is performed with a surgical blade angled at 45 degrees to lift away the outermost dead skin cells and fine vellus hair, and it can be combined with a seaweed mask.

Microcurrent treatments tone the muscles of the face and neck, with probes applied to each muscle area and only a mild sensation reported. For lasting results the spa recommends an intensive series followed by less frequent maintenance; maintenance spacing depends on age, typically about every 4 weeks at age 40.

For a first visit, new clients are asked to arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to complete paperwork and consent forms. Phones should be silenced on arrival, and children, infants and pets are not allowed during services. A credit card number is needed to hold an appointment, and cancellations with less than 24 hours notice carry a $25 fee while no-shows are charged the full service price. Clients are encouraged to book the next appointment 4 to 6 weeks out. Gift cards are available for services or products and are picked up at the spa.
