Cal Hair Extensions began in San Diego in 2007 and is now based in Poway. Founder and owner Josette Desrosiers built the business around three connected areas: extension services, hair loss solutions, and education for stylists.
A visit usually starts with a private consultation for $25, by phone at 858-231-1837 or through the online form. The owner looks at the client's needs, color, length and texture, and that assessment sets the exact price of the service. If the client books, the consultation fee is applied to the service.
The salon offers several extension methods: wefted and hand-tied beaded rows set with silicone-lined aluminum beads, fusion extensions bonded with keratin adhesive, Malaysian pole weaving, Brazilian hair knots that add color, volume, length or bangs, sew-in weaves on a braided base, tape-in extensions applied in rows, and hair locks placed strand by strand. Extensions are 100% human hair, and clients can buy reusable human hair for some methods. Hair extension pricing starts at $200 and up, according to the contact form.
Hair loss services are cosmetic and address conditions including alopecia areata, traction alopecia and telogen effluvium. Hair toppers add volume to thin or fine hair and can be clipped on or microlinked, and the owner developed the microlinking technique used to attach them. Custom wigs are made for clients of all ages and genders.
Education is a central part of the business. The academy offers one-on-one private classes for tape-in extensions, malaysian pole weaving and hair locks, as well as a one-day tape-in class. Students receive a certificate of completion from Cal Hair Extensions, Inc., and class contracts are kept confidential and shared with both parties. Class prices range from $1,899 to $3,500, with non-refundable deposits of half the tuition.
Payment options include credit cards, Afterpay, Venmo, Cash App and PayPal, but not checks. Payment plans are offered through Cherry, with 0% APR options and interest-bearing plans starting at 5.99% APR, subject to eligibility and with no hard credit checks.
Methods are chosen after a one-on-one consultation, and the service price follows from the client's hair. Clients receive care instructions and a maintenance routine for their extensions, and the business says extensions should not damage natural hair when the right technique and care are followed.
