About

Brooklyn Herborium began with a shop on Columbia Street in Red Hook and Carroll Gardens, with a workshop next door. It later opened a second location in Windsor Terrace at 1301 Prospect Ave, where the services are held. Co-founders Emma Graves and Molly Watman run the business, and Emma has worked in natural skin care since 1998. The business has been mentoring holistic aestheticians since 2010.

The business frames its work as integrated beauty and holistic self-care, with the aim of routines that are both practical and pleasing. Its functional approach addresses skin conditions and the imbalances behind them rather than skin type. Products are handmade in small batches in Brooklyn from organic, sustainably wild-crafted materials sourced as close to home as possible. According to the business they contain no GMOs, petrochemicals, parabens, SLS, perfumes, or colorants, and they are not tested on animals. Some advanced products contain emulsifiers or preservatives.

A Functional Facial comes in three levels. Level I runs about 75 minutes and includes a holistic consultation with analysis, cleansing, steaming as appropriate, extractions, a custom hand-blended mask, and a Body-Mind Alignment massage. Level II, about 90 minutes, adds one Integrative Therapy chosen for the client's needs. Level III, about 105 minutes, adds an Integrative Therapy and extra Body-Mind Alignment, including a full-body crystal grid and a sound and energy experience.

Bookings can be made online or through a request form, including requests for a specific location or a remote consultation by phone or online. Consultations take place in person or remotely, and remote consultations are offered to clients who are not local. Wellness workshops run at the Windsor Terrace location throughout the year, and custom workshops can be arranged for larger groups.

Products are sold through the business's website, which ships worldwide, with rates and carriers shown at checkout. Unopened returns made within 14 days receive a full product refund minus shipping. Practitioners can stock Brooklyn Herborium products in a spa or treatment room through retail or wholesale accounts, without taking the apprenticeship.

The business describes its approach as integrated, holistic self-care and focuses on skin conditions and the imbalances behind them rather than skin type.
