The salon was started by Meghan Balkan, who wanted to bring a modern, progressive salon to downtown Shawnee. Before opening it, she spent 16 years working as a freelance hair colorist in north Johnson County, Kansas. The salon describes itself as excelling in custom color and luxury extensions.

Services are booked by appointment, either online through Vagaro or by phone. Every service begins with a detailed consultation, where clients share their hair color history and any medications. Chemical services can react poorly with previous perms, relaxers, heavy thermal damage, over-processed hair, or henna and vegetable dyes, and the salon is not responsible for damage from information a client did not disclose. Appointments are confirmed 48 hours ahead. Cancellations and reschedules need at least 24 hours notice, and shorter notice or a no-show is charged the full reserved amount. Advanced color and keratin smoothing require a credit card or deposit, and a deposit may be asked for to hold a time.

Skin care and waxing are offered through Skin + Wax by Hannah, where treatments are shaped around each client. Clients can book with Hannah through a Vagaro link.
