Beauty by Dolly was started by sisters Dolly Bakshai and Kashmira Torki, who debuted the business in San Diego in 2005. It is family-owned and run by women, and it has now served the city for two decades from two studios, one in Hillcrest and one in Carmel Mountain Ranch.
The studio focuses on threading, waxing and sugaring, brow lamination and brow henna, and lash lifts. Threading is done with 100% cotton thread, and the wax is made in-house from sugar, water and lemon juice. Hard wax is used for smaller areas like the ears and nostrils, and roll-on honey wax for larger areas.
The business also sells its own product line, including brow powders and its signature sugar wax. Its brow lamination products are vegan, cruelty free and keratin-based. The lash lift uses a keratin infusion and pigment on natural lashes, with no extensions and no daily upkeep, and mascara can still be worn. The studio says the treatment increases lash diameter by 40%.
According to the salon, it has earned local awards recognizing it as a top pick in San Diego for brow work and hair removal. The salon also reports being featured as an industry expert in Forbes, InStyle, San Diego Magazine and other publications. Team members are offered competitive pay, a 401K plan and medical benefits.
Studios are open Tuesday to Friday from 10 AM to 6 PM, Saturday from 9 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM, and are closed Mondays. Gift cards are available, and most services can be booked online. Eyebrow and upper lip threading are walk-in only and cannot be booked online.
The studios aim to feel like a break from everyday worries. The business is open about which products are applied to clients' skin and why.
Each studio is designed as a welcoming space for personal hair removal services.
