BAESUGAR

BAESUGAR is a private studio on Market Street in Oakland. Christina Pinckney founded it in 2020, owns it, and works as its esthetician. Sugaring and lash lift services are the core of the menu.

Sugaring is the studio's main hair removal service. The paste is made from sugar, lemon juice and water, applied at body temperature, and removes hair in the direction of growth. It tends to cling to the hair rather than the skin. The salon presents sugaring as a natural option compared with waxing, and a client quoted on the About page says it is comfortable and lasts longer than other hair removal methods; that is the client's own view. Results last about three to six weeks, depending on the hair growth cycle, and regular sessions can lead to finer hair over time.

Lash lifts are semi-permanent treatments, also called lash perms or lash lamination, that curl natural lashes upward. The studio uses Lash Filler, a keratin-based product that the salon says thickens and nourishes lashes. It suggests this option for lashes that grow straight out or down, feel dry, brittle or thin, are damaged or over-curled, or need a break from extensions. Results last up to eight to twelve weeks. Clients are advised to rebook every three to five weeks for three treatments in a row, and anyone with possible contraindications should contact the salon before booking.
