About

Bad Etiquette Salon is a Portland hair salon where several independent stylists work together under one roof, each running their own business. The salon describes itself as community-focused and industry-disrupting, and it states that self-expression and alternative hair should be open to everyone.

The salon plans community events on hair education and on supporting local small businesses, and it aims to feel like a gathering place. Its Give Back Program lets clients donate unused styling products, shampoos, and conditioners to local mutual aid organizations in exchange for 20 percent off one other styling product. Each donated item earns one discount, and the discount cannot be applied to the same product that was donated. Hair products and tools are also accepted for donation to community members in need, as long as they are mostly full and not near expiration.

Visitors should plan ahead for parking: there are only a few one-hour spots in front of the salon, on a privately owned lot, and other parking is available in the Hollywood neighborhood. Questions about services, booking, and appointment follow-ups go directly to the individual stylist, who sets their own cancellation, rescheduling, sick-day, and refund policies. All product and merchandise sales are final, with no returns or exchanges. The salon has a zero-tolerance conduct policy covering bullying, hate speech, and other inappropriate behavior, with discipline up to being barred from the salon.

Independent stylists collaborate under one roof, with self-expression and alternative hair presented as open to everyone.

Community-focused and welcoming, set up as a gathering place with events on hair education and support for local small businesses.
