Backstage Salon began in 2011 as a sole proprietorship under owner Brittney Miller, a master stylist, and expanded in 2019. The salon is on Briarcliff Avenue in Oak Ridge and is open Tuesday to Thursday from 9am to 7pm and Friday from 9am to 3pm, closed Saturday through Monday.

A visit usually starts with a conversation about the look the client wants. The stylist helps map out a plan toward that look and gives advice on hair health suited to the client's hair texture.

Color runs from natural shades to pastel hues, and the technicians mix each formula. Vivid color and color corrections need to be booked by phone or in person rather than online. Balayage pricing depends on the result the client wants, and consultations are free. Toner is added to blonding services.

Haircuts with blow-dry styling are priced at $65, with longer or thicker cuts costing more. Men can book a clipper cut, fade, style and shampoo for $35, or $25 without shampoo, and a beard trim or shaping adds $10. Waxing covers lip, nostril, eyebrow and facial areas. Clients using retinoid skincare should mention it before waxing. Clients who cannot keep an appointment are asked to say so as early as possible, since a full non-refundable deposit may be required after two last-minute reschedules.

Stylists keep up with current cuts, color styles and techniques through ongoing education, and build each visit around the client's goal and hair health.
