AVI Career Training was founded in 1992 and has spent more than three decades training people for careers in beauty and wellness. The school sits on the Spring Hill Road side of Tysons Corner, a short walk from Spring Hill Metro on the Silver Line and close to I-495, Route 7 and Route 123. Free parking is available, and the school describes its campus as one of the most accessible in Northern Virginia.

The school offers a wide range of programs, from a 1,000-hour cosmetology course and 600-hour basic and master esthetics tracks to a 900-hour advanced laser certification, a 625-hour massage therapy program, a 600-hour electrolysis program and a 600-hour clinical medical assistant course. Shorter options include an 80-hour cosmetic laser technician course over ten intensive days, a 150-hour nail technician program and a 200-hour permanent cosmetic tattooing course. An ESL program for beauty industry professionals runs six levels over about 60 weeks, in class or online.

Students train in salon floors with styling stations, shampoo bowls and coloring setups, in esthetics labs, in massage therapy rooms and in treatment rooms equipped with laser, light and electrolysis devices. Classes combine faculty demonstrations with lectures and written and practical evaluations, and students begin supervised client work on the clinic floor early in each program. Weekly evaluations track skill development throughout.

Schooling is flexible for working adults. Payment plans are available, and staff help with FAFSA completion at no cost. Admissions inquiries are answered within one business day, and applying is free with no enrollment commitment.

Training is built around hands-on client work from early in each program, weekly skill evaluations and live faculty demonstrations, and covers all Fitzpatrick skin types I through VI.

Working salon floors, esthetics labs and laser and massage rooms make up a training campus that feels more like a working spa than a classroom.
