Alchemy Dry Cut Lounge

Alchemy Dry Cut Lounge opened in 2018 in Lawrenceville and is built around dry cutting, where the stylist shapes hair while it is dry so the natural fall and movement are visible. The salon describes itself as the only dry cut salon in Pittsburgh.

The salon explains that cutting dry shows how each client's hair actually moves, which it says helps with accurate shaping and balanced layers. Color work spans blonding, highlights, balayage, corrective color, ombre, lived-in looks, reds, brunettes, vivid shades and platinum blondes.

Color is done in the AVEDA color line, which the salon describes as 97% naturally derived and infused with essential oils; it also says the line is less toxic than any other color line on the market. Products are cruelty free, 100% vegan and Green Rabbit certified, and come in 100% post-consumer recyclable packaging. They are made in a factory the salon says is the only 100% wind-powered one of its kind in the USA. The salon is also a certified clean air space.

Dry cuts are priced at a fixed rate for each stylist, from $55 to $125. Color prices depend on factors such as the stylist's experience, hair history, texture, density, desired result, time and amount of product, so exact figures are given at the consultation. Rough color estimates are available on Vagaro, the online booking site, where each stylist's individual pricing is also listed. Gift cards are sold.

A credit card on file is required for all services, and payment is due when the service is complete. Product and service sales are final. Cancellations within 48 hours carry a 50% fee and within 24 hours a 100% fee, and arriving 15 minutes late counts as a no-show. Completed services and returned products are not refunded in cash, but the salon will make adjustments if a service is not satisfactory, as long as issues are reported within three days of the appointment.
