About

Alchemy at Dawn works out of Dawn Salon in South Boston, and the salon's own listing uses the name Alchemy Hair. The business describes its haircare as sustainable and low-toxic, and its stated aim is to offer a safe space where everyone can feel beautiful.

The salon's color menu covers root color, permanent color from roots to ends, hand-painted balayage, halo lightening for the front pieces and sides, and foil highlights. Bleaching is described as an aggressive approach that isn't right for every client, so the menu separates services for hair that is already bleached from services for chemically untreated hair. Most highlight clients need a toner or extra product, which is discussed at the in-person consultation. Consultations are free, take about 15 minutes and can be done by FaceTime or in person. Corrective color projects require a consultation before booking.

Visits start with a locked door: you ring the bell and a stylist lets you in. Street parking is free on both sides of the street and on nearby side streets. A credit card is needed to secure an appointment. Cancellations need at least 48 hours notice, given by email or through the booking system; later cancellations are charged half the service price, while no-shows and same-day cancellations are charged the full price. Arriving 15 or more minutes late counts as a same-day cancellation and the appointment is rescheduled. Services are not refunded, but clients who are unhappy with a color or cut can contact the salon within 7 days for an adjustment. Payment is accepted by major credit cards and Apple Pay, and cash is accepted though no change is kept on hand. Tips can be given by card, debit, cash or Venmo. Gift cards are sold, and their balances can be checked on the website.

Hours are Monday 11 am to 8 pm, Tuesday 11 am to 7 pm, Friday 11 am to 8 pm and Saturday 11 am to 5 pm. The salon is closed Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.

Focuses on sustainable, low-toxic haircare and aims to give every client a space where they feel beautiful.
