Russell Costales

Russell Costales works at Curl Roots as the Curl Shaman, a curl specialist and master hair stylist in Portland. He focuses on curly and textured hair and is experienced in coloring techniques as well as textured cutting and styling.

He began his hairstyling career in New York City. He worked at Salon Prive, where he refined his coloring work, at Mudhoney Salon in SoHo, where he adapted edgier looks, and at Edris Salon, where he paired an uptown look with cuts and styling for natural hair. He has worked in New York and Los Angeles before settling in Portland. He is trained in Caribbean hairstyles.

He holds Rëzo Certified Stylist Level 1, DevaCurl Certification Level 3, and a Master Curly Hair Artistry Certification. He takes the time to learn each client's curly hair concerns before suggesting solutions, and he serves clients across curl patterns, from waves to coils.
