Pema Khando

Pema Khando founded PemSpa in 2021 with Boris Bark and serves as its founding master esthetician. With more than 15 years in the spa field, she set out to build a more personal, deliberate alternative to a typical spa visit. She holds a master esthetician license in Massachusetts and is also a licensed massage therapist. Khando personally trains each PemSpa esthetician in the PemSpa Method, a organized, hands-on curriculum that addresses customized facials, detailed skin analysis, product integrity and a client-first approach. Her training covers how to hold the face, how to work product in, how much pressure to use, and how to handle the neck, shoulders and arms during a facial. She believes a facial should unfold at an unhurried pace, without a set script or a push to sell. For each client she builds a plan around that person's skin, with the goal of helping them understand their skin over the long term instead of focusing on one appointment. When clients want guidance, she walks them through what she sees on the skin and the reasons behind her product and technique choices. She also reads each visit and decides whether it calls for conversation or quiet.
