Nicholas P. Craig

Nicholas P. Craig, M.D., FACS, is a minimally invasive laparoscopic general surgeon at Long Island Laparoscopic Doctors, where he is the newest member of the surgical team. His focus is advanced minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures and the care of breast diseases, and he treats both adult and pediatric patients.

For more than 30 years he has practiced privately and held a place on the medical staff of John T. Mather Memorial Hospital, where he served as president of the medical staff. He has also been on the medical staff of St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Center for more than 30 years. His affiliations include St. Catherine's of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown and Port Jefferson Surgery Center.

Craig received his medical degree from the University of Rome, Italy, and attended Fordham University. His internship, residency and fellowship were completed at St. Raphael's hospital, with Yale University School of Medicine involved in that program. After training he returned to Long Island and opened a private practice. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.

His work has also taken him overseas. As a high-altitude physician and researcher on the 1999 Everest Extreme Expedition, he provided medical care to villagers on a trek to Everest Base Camp. In 2006 he served as Medical Director of a 27-member team of Mather Hospital staff, sponsored by Healing for Children, Northeast, that provided care in Zamora, Ecuador and trained local surgeons in laparoscopic procedures.
