About
Dr. Ghaith Khair, M.D., works as a bariatric surgeon at Long Island Laparoscopic Doctors, having started there in November 2019. He sees obesity as the root cause behind many diseases, and his aim is to help patients get past those obstacles toward longer, fuller lives. His practice centers on sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass and revisional procedures, and he has foregut experience covering esophageal and gastric disease. He is trained to perform laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair and Nissen fundoplication for gastroesophageal reflux. He earned his medical degree in 1998 at the University of Jordan, then spent three years in surgical training in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States in 2008. In 2013 he wrapped up general surgical training through the Metropolitan Group Hospitals Program in Chicago. He completed a bariatric and minimally invasive surgery fellowship at St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, where he performed more than 500 laparoscopic, bariatric and endoscopic cases. He trained in robotic surgery during that fellowship and holds special certification to use the da Vinci robot system. From 2014 he worked for almost five years as a general surgeon with Pemiscot Memorial Health Systems in Missouri. Before that, he spent three years on research at the Academic Surgical Unit of the University of Hull, studying new ways to diagnose colon cancer with a novel tumor marker; the work was published and presented at international medical meetings. He is board certified in general surgery by the American Board of General Surgery, is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, holds MRCS membership from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and belongs to the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery.
