About
Melanie Malone is a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and head and neck surgeon practicing in La Jolla, California, where her work is limited to the face and neck. Her specialties are facelifts, including the deep plane technique, along with neck lifts and mini facelifts. Early in her career she was an Assistant Professor of Facial Plastic Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. She later opened a skin clinic in La Jolla that bears her name, and patients come to her from across the US and abroad.
She trained at Columbia University, earning a B.A. in Biological Sciences magna cum laude and then an MD from the College of Physicians and Surgeons. Her general surgery internship and head and neck surgery residency were at Columbia University New York Presbyterian Hospital, followed by an aesthetic fellowship at the New York Center for Facial Plastic and Laser Surgery. There she learned the deep plane facelift method from Dr. Andrew Jacono, her mentor, who directs the fellowship. She is dual board certified and a diplomate of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She received the W. Shain Schley Award for Excellence in Resident Teaching, and her research on face lifting techniques earned a Resident Research Day Award.
Her research interests include facelift, blepharoplasty and rhinoplasty. She has published original work in Aesthetic Surgery Journal, JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, Facial Plastic Surgery and textbooks, and she co-authored deep plane facelift research with Dr. Jacono. She speaks at national meetings on facial plastic surgery. She volunteers as a plastic surgeon with FACE TO FACE, offering pro bono consultation and reconstructive surgery to victims of domestic violence. She also travels with Healing the Children on international medical missions, providing pro bono cleft and congenital ear surgery.
