Matty Backus

Matty Backus is a co-owner and the salon director at Yugen. He has 16 years of hairdressing experience, and nearly five of those years went to schooling and apprenticeships. He is a Pivot Point International alumnus and apprenticed at the former Red 7 Salon in Chicago and Evanston. He also trained extensively at the former Wella Institute in Chicago.

After moving back to Indiana, he advanced his career at a former Griffith salon. He later worked for JOICO International and then Schwarzkopf Professional. He moved to Ireland in January 2017 and worked in high-end salons there, gaining exposure to Irish, British and European hairdressing. He returned to Indiana in November 2018. He has taken cutting courses with Sally Rogerson Education, Mazella & Partners, and Jack Bayne, formerly of SACO.

He is known for precision haircutting and dimensional coloring, tailored to each client's needs and wants.
