John L. Whitehead, DO

John L. Whitehead, DO, is a board-certified general surgeon whose work is gender reassignment surgery at Restore Medical Center, a practice he co-founded that handles only transgender surgery. He is certified in both surgery and critical care and is a fellow of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. Across many years, he combined trauma surgery at Cook County Hospital with a general surgery practice. His interests later moved toward cosmetic work, including the removal of disfiguring scars caused by injury. He trained under pioneers and experts in transgender surgery and remains an active member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health.
