About
Howard Weiss, M.D., practices cataract and glaucoma surgery at Washington Eye Physicians & Surgeons in Chevy Chase. After an ophthalmology residency at Tufts-New England Medical Center in Boston, where he was chief resident, he trained in glaucoma at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary in Boston. He received his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and a Master of Public Health from Harvard University.
His practice spans laser-assisted and conventional cataract procedures, lens implants with multifocal and toric designs, and laser treatment for glaucoma. He treats patients who have cataracts and glaucoma at the same time, and he diagnoses and manages glaucoma. From 2008 to 2019 he was President and Managing Partner at the practice, and from 2007 to 2014 he was Medical Director of The Eye Surgery Center in Silver Spring, Maryland. He is now a glaucoma consultant at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, a clinical associate professor at Georgetown University Medical Center, and a senior attending surgeon at Washington Hospital Center, where he sits on the glaucoma review board. He has taught at all three institutions.
Weiss has taken part in research sponsored by the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health, has 20 peer-reviewed publications, and has given 80 lectures at academic institutions. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and a member of the American Glaucoma Society and the Washington Academy of Ophthalmology. Washingtonian Magazine has named him a Top Doc seven times, and more than half of his patients come through referrals from other physicians. Ophthalmologists who perform cataract surgery are among his patients.
