About
Dr. Robert Cohen holds board certification in plastic surgery and owns the Beverly Hills practice. He first built a private practice in Scottsdale, Arizona, and later added the Beverly Hills office as a second location. With more than two decades in plastic surgery, he earned board certification from the American Board of Plastic Surgery in 2006. Phoenix magazine named him among its body-procedure surgeons on the Top Doctors list in 2016, his fifth appearance there. He has also received Top Doc awards from Phoenix magazine and Castle Connolly, and is one of the leading surgeons in aesthetic breast and body work. He is a key opinion leader and consultant for Sientra, has consulted for LifeCell and Puregraft, and is often invited to teach other surgeons about breast augmentation and complex breast revision.
He trained first at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, graduating with top honors in surgery and publishing research, including a paper in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. He completed his residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he served as chief resident and contributed a textbook chapter. He then did an aesthetic and laser surgery fellowship under Dr. W. Grant Stevens in Los Angeles, becoming the first surgeon offered that fellowship for a full year. He also spent three weeks on a medical mission to North Vietnam repairing children's cleft lip and palate. He belongs to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He has taught his techniques to plastic surgeons worldwide and helped develop gummy bear breast implants.
His practice centers on breast work: breast lift, breast reduction, implant removal, mastopexy with fat grafting, complex revisions and tuberous breast surgery. He also performs tummy tucks, mommy makeovers, labiaplasty and gynecomastia surgery. He considers carefully with each patient which procedure or combination fits them, will say when someone is a poor candidate or when surgery cannot meet their aims, and takes on challenging cases such as complex revisions. For breast implant planning he favors a surgeon-guided consultation. He treats 3D simulators and in-office sizing aids as communication tools rather than guarantees, and notes that imaging can be less accurate for revision and augmentation-mastopexy cases. He keeps room to refine decisions during surgery. He is an expert in breast reduction and mommy makeovers. The recovery course he describes includes medication for comfort in the first few days, light work within two weeks, and regular exercise around one month. He also answers patient questions on RealSelf. He has performed many breast and body procedures over many years and has taught his techniques to plastic surgeons around the world.
