About
Dr. Patricia McGuire, MD, practices as a physician at Parkcrest Plastic Surgery in St. Louis, a private practice she has operated since 1991. Her clinical work centers on breast surgery and body contouring. The American Board of Plastic Surgery certified her in 1993. She is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and she also belongs to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. In 2021 she received the Scot Spear award for best breast presentation at The Aesthetic Meeting.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and graduated from medical school at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1985. Between 1985 and 1989 she trained in general surgery at Jewish Hospital and Washington University in St. Louis. She then completed a plastic surgery residency at St. Louis University from 1989 to 1991. She lectures on cosmetic breast surgery with an emphasis on safety, both in the United States and abroad, and publishes in plastic surgery journals. Her research examines systemic symptoms linked to breast implants and implant safety, and she is the principal investigator for the ASERF-sponsored Systemic Symptoms Biospecimen Analysis Study.
She has worked with silicone gel implants, saline implants and the Style 410 implant. In 2001 she was among the first surgeons in the area asked to take part in the Style 410 study, and from 2002 to 2014 she served as a clinical investigator on Allergan Style 410 studies. She was one of eight plastic surgeons chosen as a consultant to the Allergan curriculum committee for teaching that implant. In 2006 she spent time in Stockholm with Dr. Charles Randquist, a specialist in the Style 410, and in 2008 she presented a paper on her Style 410 experience in Melbourne, Australia. She has served as a clinical investigator for Motiva US clinical trials since 2018. The Style 410 is not always the best option for breast augmentation.
She is a Clinical Instructor of Surgery at Washington University and chairs the Breast Emergency Response Task Force. She serves as section editor for Aesthetic Breast Surgery at The Aesthetic Journal, reviews manuscripts for several surgical journals, and is a former chair of the ethics committee of The Aesthetic Society. She was a traveling professor for the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. She led the St Louis Area Society of Plastic Surgery as president from 2002 to 2004. In March 2025 she was named president of the Aesthetic Foundation, the research and education branch of The Aesthetic Society.
