Dr. Michael Shaughnessy

Michael Shaughnessy is a dermatologist and Mohs surgeon at Contemporary Dermatology. He holds certification from two boards, in dermatology and in Mohs surgery. He graduated summa cum laude from Duke University with a BS in Biology, earned his medical degree at Tufts University School of Medicine, and completed an internship at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He trained in the Harvard Combined Dermatology Residency Program, rotating through MGH, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Beth Israel and Boston Children's Hospital. He then completed a fellowship in cutaneous oncology and Mohs micrographic surgery at Oregon Health & Science University. He diagnoses and manages skin cancer, including surgical removal of melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and some rarer types. He also performs cosmetic reconstructive procedures such as skin flaps and grafts. His research is mainly on melanoma, with basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma also studied, and he has published many peer-reviewed articles on skin cancer. According to the practice, he is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Beta Kappa honor societies.
